TOPNEWS.MY.ID, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria responded to a statement said by the Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo who believes that the city’s permanent bike lane should be dismantled.
The deputy governor did not address the police chief’s statement and only stated that the city will try to provide its best services to every member of society. He cited Governor Anies Baswedan’s objective behind the establishment of the bike lane, which was for the benefit of the majority.
“Policies that were taken [by the government] surely refer to the benefit of the wider community,” said the Jakarta deputy governor on June 16.
The National Police Chief said the statement during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ (DPR) law commission members on Wednesday.
Moreover, the police chief revealed his plan to conduct a comparative study with other countries that already have established bicycle laws. “We will coordinate it with the Transportation Minister and the Jakarta Administration,” he said.
Jakarta has a permanent bike lane that expands from Sudirman up to Thamrin, which are the city’s major streets. The construction was started in February this year.
